About the Competition

Dragon Boat racing differs from other team sports in that no one person on the team is more important than another. Winning a Dragon Boat race hinges on how well a team works together at paddling in sync at the same time, and how well each paddler perfects the stroke technique.
The popularity of Dragon Boat racing has exploded, with an estimated 50 million people participating in the sport around the world annually.

“The Dragon Boat Race is a great opportunity for Bridgestone Americas teammates and everyone who cares about our water sheds to get in the fresh air and enjoy the river. Bridgestone is proud to continue our sponsorship of the Cumberland River Compact and other organizations dedicated to protecting our natural resources.  When it comes to caring for the environment, we're all in this together."

Beneficiaries

Founded in 1997, the Cumberland River Compact is the basin's preeminent water education resource for elected officials, developers, builders, architects and engineers and other professionals. We believe that if we work in an atmosphere of open dialogue that is supported by easily understood data about our water quality, we can create imaginative solutions to new and old challenges - solutions that will work for all of us. We encourage you to join us to help speed this important work. For further info, contact the Compact at (615) 837-1151 or visit us on the web at www.cumberlandrivercompact.org.

Founded in 1966, The Tennessee Scenic Rivers Association, Inc. (TSRA) is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to the preservation, protection and restoration of the scenic, free-flowing rivers of our state. Based in Nashville, Tennessee, TSRA remains active in conservation issues, joining with other groups to combat threats to rivers and to entire watershed areas. TSRA members "adopt" streams to monitor health and clean-up, as well as offer instruction in sea kayak, whitewater canoe, kayak, swiftwater rescue, CPR, and Wilderness First Aid.
